  1. I have been attempting to garden for 3 years! I cannot get it right! I'm hoping to order trifecta plus when it is available again.

I live near Houston TX we bought dirt, the shrub mix bc it was cheaper, but I mixed it with compost and manure from Lowe's and rabbit manure from a neighbor. Nothing seems to grow very well :/

    I'm trying to compost also.

What can I do over the fall and winter to have a great starting point for Spring

  2. I have a question. I have wood chips, paper bags, coffee grounds and kitchen scraps. What do I do if I have no grass clippings? my compost gets to active stage but never hot. I live in Albuquerque New Mexico where I need to wet my compost pretty well every time I flip it, turn it…The pile is tarped all the time. I tried barrels, they just wouldn't get hot. So I went old school and my pile is now about 2-3ft tall. Oh, and I have some rotting hay. Please help, no one addresses what to do if you don't have alot of certain vital ingredients. Here in NM grass isn't abundant, too dry and hot.
    Thanks!

  3. I totally agree with the notion that compost has no idea what temp is outside of the "cooking stage." I finally made a believer of my husband with our compost bins. Our leaves are falling in the backyard right now. So we just take the leaves and throw them in one of the bins, the other one usually still has nice amount of compost left. We clean out the chicken coop and toss that in (only 3 hens). This is my first year of a mini garden, so I was chuckling watching you throw all the veggie clean up. I actually did the same thing today! As time goes on, we throw in scraps into the compost bin (of course the hens help turn the compost too) and once spring arrives we have tons of rich compost.

  4. In a video from a long time ago you mentioned you had a book called "the garden book"? Would you still recommend this resource for new gardeners? If so, what was the author since there are a few choices when I googled it. Are there any other helpful books you would recommend?

  5. youve got a 12 minute video and youve just spent the first minute and a half explaining that your going to answer questions about compost. you did that in the title. the only reason i got that far is so i could time it and write this comment. otherwise after 20 seconds, i would of just gone off and found another video to answer my question. you could cut the time of this video by half if you got straight to the point and didnt keep repeating yourself

  6. Luke, this was wonderful as I have been told that if I use compost that is not finished, like at the slimy stage you mentioned, that it will actually just compost the seeds or roots of the veggies I plant. Since I am not sure what it looks like when it is complete. I have not used it on the garden. I do compost I enjoy thinking I am going to add something great and helpful to my garden. Especially when I clean out the chicken coop and run. I have decided to put it on and grow for it!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  7. Great videos . A question. Making compost. Would it hurt to make my 2 big ingredients leaves (carbon ) horse manure mixed with straw (nitrogen) like 50 / 50 mix there would be other kinds of nitrogen and carbon but on a much smaller amount. Not holding you to anything buddy. But could really use your input. Really like your advise.

  8. I'm coming at this video years after posting… I love this channel but there's no way I can let this one pass with out throwing up the bullshit flag. Mice and Rats live where ever humans do. Full stop, 100%.

  9. I like you so much; you’re so nice and friendly! Which makes it so pleasant to benefit from your fantastic knowledge and experience. For someone so young, it’s really impressive. Thank you for sharing so much information..clearing up many mysteries of the perfect compost. You inspire that it IS obtainable, and pretty simply!

  10. I guarantee that you have rats and mice in your area along with the raccoons. Just because you don't see them, does not mean that they are not there. There might not be large concentrations of them, but again they are there. If you are wondering how I know that, it is because that is the way it is pretty much everywhere in the United States.
