Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

isn't it cheaper just to buy the new hose attachments? CLR is like 19 dollars compare too the sprayers like 5 dollars
Hi Mark, great tips as always thanks. I noticed your Amazon link to the Hoselink products is for the US Amazon site and they specifically say the product doesn't ship to Australia. If you are getting any click-through revenue by sharing the link, it may be useful to also include a link to the Aussie Hoselink site where you can buy direct from Hoselink. Keep the videos coming, they are very inspiring.
Or soak in vinegar
Also another quick tip if you don't want to go with the fancy sprayers. The old fashioned brass nozzles that look like a firehose and you twist to adjust, never break and never clog and last forever, you just don't have as many spray options with them, you will lose them before they wear out lol. Good vid, thanks Mark gg.
Another way is to soak in baking soda solution for an hour then submerge in white vinegar till bubbling stops rinse and check if necessary repeat with a longer time in the baking soda solution. ( 1 cup baking soda added to 2 cups boiling water and stir well till dissolved. Use hot or let cool- your choice)
Why have you changed the way you do things? Up until now you have been putting your content first and only asking for subscribes likes and patreon support at the end of your videos. I did not watch this video because I didn't like the way it started and I gave it a thumbs down. I might be the only person who feels this way but to me this was disappointing. And if you're going to do all your videos this way I will probably unsubscribe. I don't like the way people on youtube ask for likes, subscriptions and support on patreon before you even see what they have two show you (just my opinion).
Hello there mate, I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge. It has helped me grow my garden I made a videohttps://youtu.be/MpP9A8C9gNw here's the link if you want to see what you've helped me create. It's in Tennessee.
Hoselink is good, I saw them being used at Bunnings and thought I would look them up, the only downside is the hefty down payment, but in the end… if it lasts a long time in Bunnings Nursery then it would last a while in everyone's garden… but, Bunnings Nursery's are usually UV protected so there is that question of how long it lasts in direct full sun.
So, the only reason why I haven't tried them is because of the hefty down payment
Ants… they once nested inside the CDROM drive of my computer, killed the CD drive but was fascinating to see how they nested in so well… and this computer was used 24/7
not really anything to do with the hose but with ants. do you have any videos on how you control ants in your garden/lawn? i live in florida and am having the most difficult time trying to get rid of them!
Good reminder. I've used the CLR product before for the exact purpose and it was definitely effective.
Hey! You can achieve the same result with common vinegar!
Hey mark I love your channel a lot it's the best plant channel on YouTube one quick question I live in the. U.K. And I can't grow good tomatoes were I live will I be successful growing indoors under a 300 watt led light.
A decent spray nozzle starts at about $30. A cheap spray nozzle, $5. Ive tried a $30 spray nozzle and didn't like the spray patterns on it. To heavy or to wide a pattern. Ill stick with the cheap ones.
You are hilarious and so informative! I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel! <3 I'm attempting to learn how to grow my own produce soon 🙂
I use citron acid for a couple of years now to keep everything clean. About 3 spoons full in a 5 liter bucket and dumping in as many hoses as possible, next day they are free of calcium and rust. Once or twice a a year is enough.
did both vinegar first and then had CLR at home. Neither worked
If I had bore water I would have irrigation on all night
6/29/2019: Did it on my three year old, very clogged nozzle. Worked like a charm. Thanks Mark.
Loved your videos
Best thing I ever put on at my house was the retractable hose.
bingeing your videos, great job, that 'How to basic beginner Gardening Tips" really owning that dad cringe jokes.
Nope that costs alot and vinegar is almost free and works amazing it unclogs everything with a bit of baking soda too.
Vinigar and bakingsoda mix!
Love it! Such a competent presentation. How very refreshing. Thx
I had ants invade an open hose i accidentally left stretched out on the edge of my yard. I capped off one end, but forgot the other. I have no idea how deep the ant colony was in the open end, but the hose was shot.
