VIDEO: Grow Seedlings Successfully Using Cardboard Rolls

I think that one of the best ways to start seedlings such as beans is to use cardboard loo rolls because once the seedlings are at an adequate size then you can simply plant out the seedling with the cardboard roll still attached. However some people have been having issues using this method and I go over what you need to do to ensure successful germination and survival rates.

  1. Hew, Dont worry about what others negative coments sadly many people look to put down others and as you say best way its to try and try again, if we quit at the first failure we woulnt get anywhere, we all have to keep on trying as thats its life we have to always take the positive learn from our mistakes and move on and get better, Thank you for the great videos. Happy 2021

  2. I have used toilet paper rolls and cut up paper towel rolls for seedlings with no problem. What I liked better was newspaper. I ordered a wooden Ser to make the pots, was inexpensive but this was about ten years ago, and used it until I acquired some professional type trays for free which allowed me to start many more places to in the same space. Happy planting!

  3. I started my seedlings in cardboard rolls, and I'm getting white fuzzy mold.. There are some seedlings that have already hatched in them. Should I let it just dry out, or discard of them?

  4. hi I have slightly stronger toilet rolls the ones with white inside… its from who gives a crap recycled toilet company so I am guessing nothing harmful however I am worried that it will not break down that easily after transplant? what do you think ??? Thank you for your response before hand!

  5. Huw, I recently saw your video that was 6 or 9 ago. You were very informative. My husband & I have started by building raised beds. I've been composting for a year or more. Do you have video about companion flowers or plants?. Like marigolds for tomatoes. Thank you

  6. thank you this is really helpful. I have planted in loo rolls and my baby seedlings are just a couple of inches tall. I didn't know anything about this so I have time to save them before problems arise! On the subject of clickbait, stuff them. My son has a youtube channel and he gets accused of that mostly by people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Besides, imagine showing yourself up as being silly enough to 'fall for' bait?! Great, channel by the way, Ive only just discovered it ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Thank you for great information! I really appreciate the tip to water from the bottom for 10 min in the paper rolls, as I tend to prefer this watering method for seeds and seedlings, but was unsure about the durability and longevity of the rolls from sitting in water.

  8. I was told that adding chamomile tea to your water helps prevent dampening off fungus. I have been watering all my seedlings with it and so far so good!

  9. I am using tp or loo rolls and we have issues with fungus and mold. We grow inside for now. We fold the bottoms because we thought that the roots would all get tangled if we left the rolls bottom open. We also baked in oven initially to sanitize. We would love to use the rolls for starts but so far haven't had success with getting them to grow with out mold and fungus. Suggestions? Strategies ? I have separated them more to ventilate. Tried cinnamon and well water down hydrogen peroxide ( which has worked some) .

  10. I do this now, I find it more convenient than the gutter method but both work well. Had a lot of luck with the tubes though and they're very convenient.
