VIDEO: Assessing Soil Health Using a Microscope with Meredith Leigh Part 5

The most essential question for farmers and gardeners to ask about their soil is, “Is it alive?” We will explore the diverse microorganism communities present in soil and why it is so important to keep them thriving and in balance. Meredith Leigh will explain the importance of a dynamic soil food web. View multiple different local participant samples and apply that information on your own farm or garden to build your own soil enriching strategies. In part 5, we start with hyphae and spores of a beneficial penicillin fungus, commonly seen on the outside of salami and other cured meats and go on to explore many other microbes in soil and fermented foods.

  1. "Cover crops are good for the soul". Meredith, I love your intellect and humanity! Very well done and thank you for sharing your knowledge and curiosity with the world!

  2. Meredith you are not a geek. You inspire by your excitement. Your so cute. You hubbies a lucky man. I’ve been wondering has all this biology in the soil been known about and ignored, or has these mega food conglomerates actively been trying to kill us slowly? I feel we are at the verge of an exciting time. I just don’t see where Agro in schools are keeping up. Either that or the Government influences are keeping children in the dark.
