  1. What a great find! A nice, hardworking, self motivated, teenage young man that chooses to have his own garden and sell produce to his community. Thank you for highlighting Dawson and hopefully inspire more young people to take the leap into growing food.

  2. I love love love that you gave this young guy some exposure! It really is inspiring that he has jumped in at such a young age. Homeschooling is awesome in that it allows him to begin and learn at such a young age. Imagine how much of a jump start he has on the rest of us! Imagine where he will be in 5yrs..at 19 yrs old!

  3. What an inspirational story. Schools seem to have dropped FFA and almost all practical classes. It is really great to see a young person making their dreams happen.

I have a similar problem with my farm startup. Lots of water in the winter and a very dry summer, especially July/August when I actually have the sun and heat to grow things. I need to get my well sorted out but I am planning on building several ponds to catch the water. Perhaps make some swales to soak and channel the water, Geoff Lawton style. Would this not be a great solution for North Texas?

  4. Hi Curtis
Iam new to farm and IAM from India and I like ur idea to grow more in small place and we have 6 acers of land we grow one type of crop and urs ideas are so cool and IAM 17and half I to have carz about farming but in our house they is to tell us first studying is more important and by looking him I got idea that I can also do both at time by doing homeschool

  5. Hey Dawson! The pests and climate down here are brutal indeed! I'm south and east of you… south of Tyler. I have leaf-footed beetles, harlequin beetles, stink bugs, squash bugs, gophers, and more. Compost teas, and amending the soil with humates, compost, and trace minerals are helping the plants to fight them off. Every year is a bit better than the last. I'll follow you on Instagram. My farm is "Preachers End Farm" In Jacksonville, TX.

  6. This kid is killing it. Busting his but and working hard. He needs a small investment for compost and row covers to help with pests.
Keep up the hard work kid. It will pay off.

  7. Damn it's amazing what kind of headstart you can get in life if you are allowed to follow your passion early. Imagine how much understanding of nature and business he will have developed when other kids just graduated school and then maybe "study".
