Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. It's funny you say that, I stumbled across your channel while googling something like "how to…" I really enjoy watching your videos, it's good to see people on YouTube REAL and RAW and of course a True Blue Aussie! I'm from WA, so enjoy watching your content as your videos are informative and fun all though I do have a ton of garden envy. Your channel is helping me create a beautiful space out the back that will hopefully become better each day as my partner and I are beginner gardeners. Keep up with the content, YouTube is an awesome space for people to be creative and enjoy the financial benefits and freedom of a home career. So awesome, wish I could do it! Keep it up! 🙂

  2. I would suggest that the reason why those particular videos took off is because the average person (urban or city dweller), doesn’t have the adequate space to grow such a large variety of fruit and veg. Given this fact they’re interested in how to maximise yields and master a handful of specific fruit or veg due to inadequate space. Essentially viewers are seeking advice from someone who is already mastering the yields of given fruit and veg.

  3. I would have had to kill that lizard thing. Don't know what it might of tasted like but I generally eat what I kill.Could't have it worrying the chickens and eating the eggs. Good on you.: )

  4. Alter all these years I found your channel through the lemon video and got hooked. Tnks for the inspiration. I’m trying to convince the wife to do a raised bed vegetable garden on our backyard. Love your videos!

  5. I introduced you to my 5 and 9 year old on your citrus Maximus video and I got them hooked too and they watched every video you got. 3 Texans love you and your channel please never stop!!!!!

  6. Hi there Mark. I am so glad you did not stop doing videos. I started planting my own veggie garden. I had to stop working do to health issues a couple yrs ago .I started watching your videos because I am a little rusty on the veggie growing. You have helped me out a lot. I just happen to run across this one.

  7. I’ve been watching you since around 2012-2013. You have been a huge inspiration for me to finally start my self-sufficient garden. Thank you boss!

P.S. My favorite videos of yours are the “How to Grow a Ton of…”

  8. The success of your videos and channel comes from sharing with sincerity of doing what you love and it brings out true personality and character. Were all glad you stuck with it! Inspiration is everywhere!

  9. Respect to you Sarg.
Gotta be better than jumping out of aeroplanes.
It was your, "How to grow a ton of ginger" that popped up in my youtube 'suggestions' window (Long story) that drew me in.
Anyway, you just got another subscribed recruit to do the "In This Lesson" bash with.
    Cheers.

  10. It’s funny because that is one video I haven’t seen because up here in Flagstaff, AZ we can’t grow citrus here. Although I do have a tiny lemon tree in a big pot and we have to haul it in every Fall. I will be watching that video next to see if it will help me grow lemons on my innie/outtie tree. Thanks!

  11. As an old Vietnam veteran Mark, you have provided me with the inspiration to get off my arse and provide food for my family. I have been watching you for a few years now and I look forward to your next video, so glad you kept keeping on mate. Cheers Mick
