Great Video. I've recently gained a new appreciation for this Beautiful flower. We actually feed all our local Native Parrots with the seeds, all of a sudden we have had sunflower plants popping up everywhere, love them now. Going to dedicate a whole flower bed to them soon. I grow the mammoth variety of sunflower and there were some that grew taller that my house and created huge flowers. I have since cut the flower and the stalk still stands. They even tried to create more tiny sunflowers subsequently but they are the size of a fist or smaller. The stalk hasn't died yet surprisingly

Thanks man I am a newbie as in starting from day zero with my packet of seeds I picked up at Aldie. You were so straightforward and helpful with great tips but I’ve got to find something that tells me how far apart to plant them or what to look for because I had some that shot up within 24 hours and they look just like long stringy legs right now… So I’m starting over… Still clueless but looking for some experienced folks that can help me

I use coffee grind and apparently it has a lot of nitrogen. They are growing very tall within a week time. Actually used it to expell snails first But now I’ll just add some over time.

Im in need of serious help and asap! I live in us, ohio. My sunflowers are finally blooming and growing like crazy. Its my first yr and im using a raised bed out front that was with ny house. Im only now learning about drainage in garden beds and such. Not sure how well it was built but my sunflowers are getting tiny brown black spots. I think its septoria leafspot or whatever its called, and i treated it with some dawn, water, and hydrogen peroxide. Im going to spray q some neem too. But it is summer and it is supposed to rain for the next like 10 days. Hopefulkt not heavily again, but is there anything i can do to help it from sitting in water? I thought tarp maybe but whay if the water pools on top and may still poyr into the garden. Maybe not if i checked it often. But im just not sure. I think i may kind of mound up the soil a bit around the plants, aerate a bit, and just have an area the water can run off to the sides of the box. But it still would be in the garden.. i just dont know!

I used black oil sunflower seed for bait for destructive chipmonks/ground squirrels and then planted them after several days soaked in water. Ended up with a huge bed of sunflowers! Total unexpected but very welcome.
Totally very very dense but they still grew anyway. I was really surprised how well they did and how fast they grew.
I grew Mammoth sunflowers this year. Most of them came up at 7-8 feet tall and huge flowers opened on them. Then, all of the sudden, the flowers closed in half (looking kind of like a tortillas) and leaves started to fall off. Does anyone know what the heck happened to them? Why do sunflowers die suddenly? Were they just old and it was their time?..
