Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

Isn't the first plant Amorphophyllus?
Hi Mark! New subscriber and loving your channel. I've always wanted to have a property like yours, but until that's a reality I'll keep up my containers on my little US apartment balcony =D I was wondering if you'd consider doing a few videos on how you use up all the goodies your gardens produce. I'm sure they yield a ton! Do you can, freeze, try new recipes to keep it fresh, etc? Sorry if you've addressed this already but I'd love to watch more. Happy growing and God bless!
2:40 I dont know why but I've been craving and eating asparagus few times a week. So jealous
Is Huw, Jack Whitehall's brother???
Because of lockdown, I tried planting some tomatoe seeds, onions, etc. I don't have any experience in planting or gardening, but this world situations taught me a big lessson. So, I learned to watch, how to plant, decompost, etc. , thank you sir, I learned a lot…
I could just watch a million of these videos. This is my favorite gardening youtuber!
It was nice seeing young Huw make an appearance. #hailthebeardies
Cool dude you are xxx.
Good man thanks xxx

I loved all the tips, however I must admit #5 was a brilliant idea for anyone looking at starting it.
Nice bro like i know that guy to i think u better but still nice
Wwooww what abeatiful garden you Have .wanna see once
I've grown what I call my "lettuce plantation." Every year I let the lettuce grow until it produces seeds (picking out the best plants to go to seed and pulling out the others). I let the seeds fall and don't cover them with soil. l end up with a huge block of lettuce every year that produces early and enthusiastically. I once had a huge head of lettuce grow in the seam of my concrete driveway!
It looks messy when a bunch of lettuce goes to seed but is worth it.
Great video cool to see huey
Had to put the fence up around the garden last weekend. The only way that I can keep the deer, raccoons, and my 3 dogs out of it…lol
I also put 4 hanging flower baskets into the garden to try to get the bees and pollinators to frequent it.
Great advise hu. I did this for my herbs, chillies, garlic and onions. Even on a balcony it is ridiculous how much u can harvest
SO cool to see Huw on your video! I've been subscribed to him for years.
