  1. I will try that next year. This was my first year growing root vegetables and I thinned them all and they were all very small. That was one great harvest of beets. Thanks for sharing this!

  2. Little late, but I just pulled up a beet the size of my fist. I started to search beet YouTube videos and it brought me here. Your reaction is about what I just did. You would have thought I hit the lottery, coming in the house shaking my beet saying “do you see this!?!?” I’m loving how excited you are. I’m vibing off your energy!

  3. I've tried growing beets in the ground, in containers, in Spring AND in Fall, and none have ever been bigger than an inch. All organic, I've mulched and not mulched (with straw), and added organic compost to the soil. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Your beets are fantastic!!!

  4. I actually had bad luck with my beets this year because of deer… but I decided not to give up on them, so I MOVED THEM. YES. I pulled them up because they just were so pitiful because they were constantly losing their greens, and I even left them in a moist bag for 3 days while I decided not to discard them or waste my time trying eat them. I planted them under my okra. They are growing new greens and every one survived. We shall see how big they get.

  5. Yep, I just plant all of my seeds right into the soil. I do not go all nuts into spacing. My beets are just sprinkled down the row and they are tiny seeds, so they grow close together in a good 30 foot row because I LOVE pickled beets.

  6. I watched another of his videos that he contradicts other growers by saying to use lots of nitrogen on beets even though they are a root vegetable. I used a lot of bone meal and didn't have much luck with beets last season they were very small. I am thinking of loading my soil up with a good amount of blood meal this time Has anyone gone heavy on the nitrogen and had larger beets as a result? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  7. My beets grew into long fingers no thicker than my thumb and 2- 3 inches long. I don't have access to compost in my area and cannot compost on my property. No idea how to correct this.

  8. beets are my favorite vegetable! Thinking of making a small green house to grow some veg and herbs (dill parsley basil etc) for this winter. Growing micro greens at the moment it was too windy to take out today but surprised how quickly they grow I wish I started earlier
