VIDEO: Complete Late July Garden Tour
Late July is setting in and that means high heat and high humidity. Let’s do a garden tour! Check out our new clothing line! http:www.freshpickedapparel.com
This novice gardener learned lots from the tour. Thank you.
This is my first year. I got a late start, and we had cold weather stunt growth, and I use the wrong soil on some, but the one's with the correct soil are finally growing good. The correct soil appears to be the most important factor. The short season 55 to 60 day variety is the type that is going to give me a tomato, so I'll more of those next year instead. I also try Early Girl next year. I'm in the same latitude as MIgardener.
Luke, do you top your jalapeño peppers? I didn’t because I’m in zone 4A and heard it might not be a long enough growing period if I top. We planted our starts mid June and the plants are already 3 feet high and have roughly 30 peppers on each. Would you suggest topping in this climate? Should I be getting a better yield?
i have been REALLY happy with my kale this year … it looks like it might not be tolerating the heat and humidity anymore, but we are looking at rain for a few days (*fingers crossed!*) so i'm not pulling it quite yet. i have never had kale last so long into the summer, but i have been growing white russian kale and it seems to be much "hardier" than curly kale (and much easier to keep the bugs out of!). but yeah, i have had these ginormous cucumbers from 4 plants trellised up and i have been getting just about a large cucumber a day, which i'm really happy with. the first run has become a little battered from the heat, but i have a "succession" just starting to flower and i am REALLY REALLY hoping some of this heat breaks with the rain! here it was 104 IN THE SHADE yesterday … and that has been one of our "cooler" days! cucumbers definitely are not big fans of that kind of heat and the kind of sun intensity we have been getting! do you grow any "chinese" cabbage varieties … napa cabbage?
Have harvested 12 pickling cucumbers and my jalapeno peppers are doing great this year and they did good last year.my cantaloupe and watermelon is doing really well. My tomatoes are doing good some have ripened and some are taking there time with some disease and my tomatoe seedlings already have tomatoes on them
My bean and squash plants and some of my strawberry plants are doing really good
Got a big harvest of green beans so far
Beautiful gardens! Such an inspiration. I too am having a banner pepper year when usually its my worst crop. I wonder why that is? By the way, just say the word and we would be happy to send you a Tertill for weeding those onion beds 🙂
Nice, try growing a tamarillo tree
i always love your gardening, come and visit me too, stay connected
I hope you make a video about what fall crops you will be planting!
Something keeps eating or clipping my pepper branches off and I can’t find an ant bed. Any ideas?
Cut them leaves off brother trust me I live in Michigan too but yours our doing great compared to mine
Love the video, I have a channel too with a little Newbie Garden. I’m learning but having fun!!
Nice
Wow…looks great Luke! I think a lot of people were having a rough start to peppers this year. Yours look great. Are all of your tomatoes Indeterminant?
You are exceptional! I admire your creative and hard work. Very expressive,. Unique animation,
your singing is enjoyable too.
Checked your page to see which state you're growing everything?
My tomato plants grow 6 feet by july end. Not much fruit. May be the same as yours. Why are mine so tall? It is becoming hard to manage
Have you had any problems with tomato worms? If so, what do you do?
Congratulations! How big is your planting area?
Im in toronto ontario and same experience with the peppers this year!
What would be the best canning tomato. Thanks
Great video as usual Luke.
My first year to have any Kind of success with a garden. Looking at your tomatoes and how many you have I was put to shame or inspired… in either case I went and started a few more yellow cherry tomato seeds. First frost is December 14th here so plenty of time for a LOT more fruit but probably not THAT much! WOW!!
Does anyone in the comments know, if he grows organic vegetables? Or a mix of Normal and organic plants?
Why not do one strawberry bed this year and the other strawberry bed The next year so you don’t lose as much harvest?
I use our tomatoes to make fresh juice. I combine with apples and it tastes delicious! Gareth
We are having a great garden this year too in KY.
Have had plenty of rain and a nice spring.
Cooling off a bit now and planting fall garden now.
