In this video, I show you some things that have been happening here on the Self Sufficient Me Homestead over the past few weeks whilst I pick a ton of peas! Including our new ducks and a novel way to deter birds from eating the vegetable garden.

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

I can almost smell those fresh peas as I hear them squeak
Felt sad about the duck eggs not hatching.
Currently shelling my peas watching you harvest and preserve yours!
This channel shouldn't be able to get dislikes
Make friends with a family of magpies!! I’m they’ve been like guards dogs against cockatoos especially this time of year
Going to have to check out TEOA- they sound like the band Doves. https://youtu.be/SneuvKIkM3A
Cockies trash everything. Within 5 minutes, they destroyed my verandah eating thru the wood in huge chunks. They came into my house and got into my tupperware in the kitchen, chewing thru the plastic, knocking heavy containers of food on the floor. Just madness!!! They are so beautiful to look at but ever so cheeky. Your backyard is amazing!!! Everything is so green.
The ducks made me feel quite happy. Been a bit depressing lately and anxiety burdened here in tje states. Duck in the pool was very uplifting.
just love your vids
omg this baby duck hutch needs a webcam I could watch them forever !
Wats with the music
Living in Australia, the summer is just making us crazy right now. Watching those ducks swim was the most satisfying thing. Am jealous
Mark I find you every bit as entertaining as those ducks ! Love the channel!! have a good one mate
It was so fun watching my ducklings the first time they got in their "pool". They had a blast!
Great video. Loved seeing the birds too. Thank you.
Do you have any tips for growing fava beans in subtropical climates? I'm in contact with someone from the Brisbane area who's tried growing fava beans every Winter, but the plants only flower every other year.
I'm still having trouble getting used to the idea of having wild parrots hanging out in your yard all the time.
I love watching your videos. I watch them almost every single night. Sometimes the same ones over and over. Thank you for making these videos! You're amazing!!!
Loved watching the ducklings!
How many picking do you get from your peas?
The birds are beautiful despite their destruction.
Don’t you know that the bird mother rotates it’s eggs once in a while, while laying on them to prevent the egg from rotting?
My peas are a bit yellow any idea why ? Soil is good and new
I really enjoyed the ducks in this one!
I come n help u garden lol
