  2. Spinach sounds like a great idea! I have some radishes I just put in, hoping they'll beat the cold! Turns out they are delicious in soups and stews, they become mild and retain more texture than tubers, who knew cooked radishes were so great? (o.k. yes, apart from French chefs). I also have purple cabbage, mustard greens and beets but I sowed them end of July…

  3. Can this method work fo lettuce ? I'm also starting a new bed! Ruth Stout style for beets and carrots. Your thoughts ? Can beets & carrots actually grow through cardboard or should I use a thick layer of straw, then use compost to plant in as you've done here in this video?

  4. I tried growing radishes and carrots last year. I planted the seeds in August and thought for sure that I would at least get some radishes even if I got no carrots. I even planted more radish seeds at the beginning of September. The did sprout and break through the surface of the soil; but, at the first frost, the tops of the little seedlings died off. I kept watering whenever the soil needed it; but, the never came back. We have really strange weather and all the smoke from our late fire season. The daytime temps are still getting up into the 80s to low 90s and the night time temps are ranging anywhere from the 40s to 50s, even into the 60s.

  5. I threw cabbage in my beds already ciming up nicely I really wanted to do Brussel sprouts but the fall is just too short. Also of course did a lettuce mix. I did several pots of lettuce & spinach so can bring in when frost comes

  6. You are such a great video maker Jeff. Love watching your videos! Thank you so much for all of the positive energy and the knowledge bombs in a very understandable and in depth way. I'm surprised you aren't boasting about being some hort prof at Uvic.
