  1. Your project sounds exciting. If we all burn wood, however, the air would be unbreathable. It's dirtier than coal. There are biodiesel generators, and you can make biodiesel from algae. There are also solar hot water systems. If you build five feet or more into the ground you benefit from warmer ground temperatures, and if you draw in fresh air from ground tubes ten feet down your cold intake winter air comes into your air exchanger at 5 degrees or more. No need to pollute with burning wood. The same applies to greenhouses. Just don't grow fruiting plants in February, only low DLI plants. I will be following with great interest. If you do pollute with wood, be sure you more than compensate with appropriate carbon sinks.

  2. Awesome update. I have been paying attention to your journey off and on for at least 6 years now. Glad to hear about your new plans. I am doing something similar down here in North Texas, little by little.

I come at our current situation from a little different perspective. The PANDEMIC from which hundreds of thousands of US citizens have died from, as clearly indicated by background death rates, has highlighted even more for me the inherent fragility our modern economic system. It is highly under appreciated how close the US came to real food shortages back in March/April 2020.

  3. You might get some good ideas from book by 'Living Big in a Tiny House' Bryce in New Zealand (relatives in USA). Also: 'Tiny House Giant Journey'; 'Tiny House Tours' with Chris & wife athlete; LANDIO father and son watch their videos before calling them to understand deep respect for land, community. Careful regarding 'copy cats' who don't respect nature or animals moving in next door so keep your location off videos amap for peace and quiet. Also 'homesteadonomics' may give you free advice on important topics.

  4. You should do art work gardening with stone just to get new customers to remember your last name 'Stone.' Have stone garden art close up for your logo and theme 'stone' appreciation. Wide variety of stone gardens, some are very beautiful in ancient Japan.

  5. Great video! Feedback about fromthefield.tv: I think it's very over-priced. I wouldn't say that if I actually grew stuff and especially not if I even made money doing that but for someone who watches your content for entertainment it's way to expensive. I hope you can still upload some stuff on youtube for us plebs who just like what you are doing.

  6. I'm with you 100% in becoming energy independent, but what do you do if you can't source batteries for your solar system? All batteries are made in China and batteries only last about 10 years. It's a consideration worth having

  7. Hey Curtis, finally subbed to your channel here. Owen B turned me on to your content, keep crushing! Getting off grid completely is almost impossible but can be done w dedication and community.

  8. Hello from Slocan lake in the kootenay region (about an hour north of Nelson, BC). We have 3 lakeside lots in a town of 300ish ppl… tryna turn it all into food (minus the space our little home occupies)… just dusted off my snowshoes, btw lol..and my man and I lovvvve snowboarding! Hes a carpenter..wink wink! (He built 3 dentist offices out in the okanagan recently).. Would be so cool to meet you! Will go to 'fromthefield' now!

  9. I've been thinking about steam power for a while since it provides heat, hot water and electricity. Anyone know if there are companies that still make them?

  10. Well done Curtis! I'm in the same procedure, bought a house with a bit of land and in a month I'm moving and starting a small farm to eventually be able to live a self sustained life! This channel is golden, I'm amazed at the amount of info you cover in your videos, super professional and very intelligent. The in depth questioning you do is of immense value for people like myself with not so much exp. Thank you for all the great stuff you keep delivering!

  11. Your not the only one curtis.. mant people are beginning to hate society.lucky for me i knew i hated people long ago so were basically already in our offgrid situation. Never look back.
