Check goodwill for jars!
I’ll help when you do tomatoes this summer!
Try to find used jars at garage sales. Old ones MAY come in nice cardboard boxes with dividers. That’s how they used to be sold. New ones now come in these plastic wrapped flats. The boxes were nice just for storing your empties.
Just found your channel. Love it! Wondering if you use the canning lids that come with a new box of jars.
This may be a stupid question but… why the need for new lids?
Thanks to your tomato canning video, I have now purchased two 16 quart roaster ovens, on sale at walmart, and then found an 18 quart one at thrift store. Can't wait to can tomatoes this year. It will be soooo much easier. Again, thanks to you!
I’ve never done canning but we will have a yard and a garden for the first time very soon so I’m exploring. I probably will be doing tomato for sure. My grandmother grew and canned her own. She died before I could learn from her. Thank Becky love the details!
This is off-topic but I wanted to comment that your hair lookes lovely open and down.
I love Homesteading Family too. I am so glad to have found you!
I can remember, back in the late 70's and early 80's, coming home from school and smelling the tomatoes and grapes that my grandma would can. I was raised on homemade grape jelly, and store bought jelly doesn't have the same flavor. Lol, I just realized that I dated my self.
I started making grape jelly about 4 years ago. Anyway, my grandmother didn't have a roaster, she just used really big pots. I have her pots. I do plan on getting 2 or 3 roasters.
It's so nice to see a young person homestead and preserving.
Thanks for sharing.
This was a very informative video. Thanks for sharing your info.
I'm currently in the process of getting an idea of what my partner and I actually eat in a month/year so I can know what to buy in bulk and what to preserve. It's a lot of recipe trying lol.
Thank you for the detailed list of necessities for canning!
I have been watching your videos for about six weeks now. I'm home sick and decided to start from the beginning of your videos. I love that you are no nonsense and sharing your journey. I tried a tote garden this year. It was an epic fail but you have giving me the courage to give it another go. By the way, your hair is beautiful. Your videos are the highlight to my day. Thank you for bring brave enough to put yourself out there.
Our Goodwill charged .69 for jars for the longest time. Now they are charging .80 for jars. I can get new ones for that price.
