  1. Yes!! I had that idea too!! It’s more thought ful I think to gift home made things and cheaper on the wallet… but really it seems just more personal to me… I would much rather get a gift from someone they spent time to make me than a gift card or something random they bought at a store

  2. I love how you talk about giving things out as gifts. That is so kind. I would kill to try a fresh egg. So far, I haven’t been able to convince anyone to let me have one. Lol. Maybe one day I will come across someone as nice as you.

  3. We grow lots of figs in our area so canning figs is very common. I put as many figs in my large crackpot as I can fit, a few cups of sugar and a little water. Turn them on and only stir about once an hour. I use mine mostly for fig tarts so I like them to get soft enough to give them a decent mash. If you want variety, you can add a packet of strawberry jello for a different flavor. Fig cake with pecans is also a favorite. Moist but chewy. Hope this gives you some ideas.

  4. Yummy. Add a home baked loaf of bread, or some crackers, a block of really good sharp cheese, and a pot of fig jam, maybe a jar of home made pickles as well. That would make a lovely gift basket!

  5. Gifting the jam is a great idea. But the biggest loss to u is the jars and lids . So what my mother do with jams is that she will reuse any glass jars we have ( from store bought salsa etc ) and she pour the jam while it’s hot in it , then flip the jars upside down and keep them on the counter over night . The bottles will seal enough to keep in the fridge for months. ( the lids should be the one with seal buttons ) . It’s a great way to gift people plus it saves u canning jars and they all can afford storing one or 3 jars in their fridge with no problem

  6. I have been growing little dog tree starts for about 4 years now but it is cold enough here that I haven’t decided if I’m going to plant them or keep moving them in and out of the garage. Those look awesome!

  7. I've never seen fresh figs at my farmer's market or any grocery store in my area. Only the dried ones at the grocery store. However, I also discovered this delicious fig jam a few years ago that is incredible for pouring over cream cheese for an appetizer with crackers. Recently, I purchased a new variety of the same fig jam that has red chili peppers in it for some heat, it's now my favorite! I wish I could find figs and do some experimenting to come up with something similar cause those little jars are pricey!

  8. I hope that you'll take this comment with the intention with which it is made. It might be a good idea to mention that you are not providing an instructional video. I was concerned about the headspace in your jam recipe and the fact that you're jars were not immersed by 1 to 2" below the water level in your canning pot. This is Dangerous. I am a master food preserver with the University of California extension program. I really enjoy your videos. You are lively and thoughtful and very entertaining. Nonetheless, having so many followers and people looking for how to do things, it becomes your responsibility to make sure that people understand that they are really virtually "visiting" you in your kitchen and not learning from you as an expert.
