Ah, soil. I remember having soil when I gardened in OK. I'm now in NM and garden on solid rock. T-posts require a jack hammer but I am determined to grow vertically this year. Wish me luck.
Love those overalls. What’s the brand?
Love this! Last year was my first year gardening…did container gardening just to see if I'd like it. My birthday was last week and I got 10 raised beds for this year. Short story long, I used the tomato cages on my green pepper plant and they did amazing. And for my tomato plants I used one of the green stakes from hd and that worked great. Just another option! Loved your book! Happy gardening and God bless
Can I top my tomatoes since I’m pretty short and I can’t reach the top? Would this be bad for production or anything like that?
I like this kind of tralis
Thanks for this video. We just got the 3 cattle panels (8 foot only) delivered by Tractor Supply, we have a small garden for now. Your T-Posts look sturdy, what kind are those?
I am trying this method for the first time this year Jess, thanks for Sharing.
This is so useful. Thank you for sharing. Oh! And I have your book! I love it and have already given 2 copies to some like-minded gardening friends.
I have a question about garden planning. I have planted several indeterminate tomatoes and now realize they are going to shade my next row in the afternoon. Do you have a video about garden planning? My rows run probably NE-SW. I think I should have turned them to follow the sun, E-W. Thanks for all you do and God bless y'all!
I wish the cattle Panels were cheaper here in Canada. They go from 60 to 90bucks a panels. T-post are around 11 bucks
For those who dont have a truck or trailer to carry the cattle panels, I have been using welded wire fencing that comes in a roll for a few years and it has performed super well for me here in the desert.
Ever think of hooking your calvanised steel trellis to a system using some principals of électroculture. Having a "paratonnère antenna " dont k ow how to say in english….it could draw ions from the earth and accelerate healthier growth. No petro-chemicals. Many benefits
As for tying them to the trellis, strips of old pantyhose works well. It's nice and stretchy and doesn't damage the stems or anything.
Hey Jess, love the info about this trellis – my experimental plant this year is a Loofa!! (don't know why!) and I definitely need a cattle panel for it. But my question is, do you not rotate your tomato crops each year?
Jess could I plant squash and tomatoes on the wall together-tomatoes on one side climbing squash on the other?
Built one this weekend based off this video! Doing another one next weekend 🙂 I hope you can do a video OR mention different options to plant on the side/front of tomatoes, i am thinking of putting in onion and garlic in front/between the tomatoes, what do you think? What else will be low enough and feed the family?
I don't think I can fit cattle panels in my car. Would chicken wire doubled over work for tomatos?
What do you do when the tomatoes grow past the top?
I love your colorful posts! It looks like a playground. What type of spray paint do you use that lasts so long in the sun?
I need those bibs!! What brand please!!
You are fantastic. I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you Wondering where your homestead is located?
Where did you get those bib overalls
I really like your helpful videos! I am trying the cattle panels for tomatoes this year. They are staked about a foot above the ground. I planted the tomatoes nearly directly under the panels which I realize now isn't ideal. Should I try to move them now, or do you think it will be easy to train them to one side? They are just now reaching the bottom of the trellis, and I have been pruning away the lower leaves and suckers.
How wide are your raised beds?
How far from the edge of bed do you place the trellises?

How do you keep squirrels or other critters out your garden?
