  1. Super helpful. I do have a problem with Critters – mainly rolie polies gathering in large numbers I see the shade cloth when I have tried this in the past. And they do eat you g seedlings. Any advice on how to prevent them from getting the plants just as they emerge?

  2. The last time we corresponded, you seemed to think the deadly threat of climate change was overrated. Now that Canada has set a new record temperature, hundreds of people died in British Columbia, and we are looking at massive crop failures in the western US, any change of heart? Those are not fluke events. Or are you still a climate denialist?

  3. Thanks alot Curtis, we have trouble in OK, trying to keep soil moist during germination period.although we do plant much later here it can still be a challenge.

  4. Thanks for the video Curtis, super helpful! I'm curious, with the intense sun, does the black cloth not increase the soil temp too much? We have been using white AG-30 row cover for this same process, and have been getting 80-90% germination. Do you feel like the black shade cloth is a better choice? On another note, Our transplants in the greenhouse have been getting fried and not germinating well (soil temps way too high), so I totally understand the desire to direct seed, and we are going to start trying that more in midsummer too. Appreciate all your work and energy!

  5. Wow, I am losing it. I thought this was an old video because I got used to Curtis not putting anymore videos of his current homestead. Thanks for putting this up Curtis. I am also enjoying lots of Basil, lots of pesto.

  6. I'm really sick what book would you recommend on how to make soil/compost? I wish to learn to heal myself through plants. I need a comprehensive guide with simple language.

  7. Invite you on event of utmost importance 24.07.2021 Today GLOBAL CRISIS. THIS ALREADY AFFECTS EVERYONE! This is online conference. With the whole world we can survive all climatic disasters! 72 languages of simultaneous interpreting

  8. Hi Curtis

I am battling to get good germination with my micro greens. Any advice please?

It is winter currently (ave 60 degrees f). I am growing outside under shade cloth. I am sowing a Asian lettuce blend.

    Thank you

  9. i havent been following this grow that youre doing but it seems to look like its on a roof. How do the plants manage the heat when surrounded by stone which seems to retain heat? i would think that it would increase the localized temperature by a few degrees.

  10. In addition to a decreased amount of Sunshine, my neighbors who were evicted, managed to fill our hillside with RATS! I have been starting seeds inside of my house, and then transplanting them to my shade filled garden area. I plan on trying this Shade cloth protection….. and I am hoping that it slows down the rats. Ugh. One trick that I have been using with good success is to place knee hi nylons over my tomatoes and cabbage, etc. This slows down those disgusting varmints.
