VIDEO: Flower Bouquets Lead To Best Market Yet!!! The Employee Saves The Day

Farmers Markets love fresh flowers, and this week we brought down so many bouquets that we smashed our sales record, for the 3rd straight farmers market. We didn’t just bring flowers and bouquets to the market, but the veggies we took just didn’t sell as well. We even had cherry tomatoes for the first time this year, but veggies made up only just over a third of total sales. It’s still an exciting day, and the zinnia, gladiolus, cosmos, sunflowers, rudbeckia, and snapdragons all looked so good. We are excited to get back and try to sell even more next week.

  1. Why not try to make veggie bouquets? A bunch of different veggies arranged artfully into a bouquet will certainly catch people's attention. Each bunch can be ingredients for a recipe, ex. Salad bouquet, or Stir-fry bouquet. Just a suggestion as I've seen some in my local market. Keep it up guys.

  2. Why in the world would a single person ever "dislike" any video on this awesome channel? Your property is beautiful and I admire your hard work!!! The Employee seems cool lol!

  3. Love "the Employee's" great sense of design + ability to grow such an intriguing variety of beautiful flowers!

Can customers buy a few additional flowers, by so much per stem? Some customers might enjoy "up-spending" voluntarily, so they can add some complementary flowers or fillers to make the bouquet larger, or to redistribute & make 2 or 3 more, smaller bouquets at home?

It's good for the food shelters that you're donating food that you can't sell, & I guess you don't have the time – or want to bother with preserving what doesn't sell, to eat later. Other than freezing, & dehydrating, I haven't tried to preserve food, but I know how to can & as you no doubt know, preserving is very labor intensive & takes a lot of time. It might not be profitable. It's heavy & in glass. Not everyone trusts eating food that someone you don't know has preserved at home, & not everyone likes to eat "canned" / preserved foods..

However, if you want to make more money every month, can't you have subscribers who get weekly deliveries of veggies, so you can pretty much know what your monthly flow will be? If you had steady customers who bought all their veggies from you, and why wouldn't they, you might double your income.

You did all that work to bring it to harvest & you did a great job producing – and photographing & video blogging images of very healthy looking food! Your flowers & produce all look ideally grown. Do you use only your own compost & manure to feed everything? You must have huge compost piles. What's your pH & Zone up there? Do you amend it for acidity or alkalinity?

  4. Hey guys, a suggestion! What if you split the market stand into two separate stalls? One solely for flowers Little Red Hen Flowers (or something), and then Red Roof Veggies. I think people are so dazzled by the bouquets that they are spending time and energy picking and choosing what bunch, then they see veg and are tired. They need to leave and go to the next stall and then focus on veggies! Does this make sense? I wonder if your employee could run it if Serena is busy? I think you might see more sales on both?! Not sure about market stall fees though….I see the delineation, I’m just not sure people are having that momentary break from the colour and awe?

  5. I also had a hard time with Glads, but this amazing girl on Nothlawn Flower Farm, showed how to cut them in more pieces. Cut them in the middle, remove some flowers from the middle to have some stems, and they will open a bit later, but you will get a completely other impression of the flowers. I can recommend you spending a half an hour watching her channel with Gladiolus, it completely changed my look on glads, and now they are amazing 🙂
