  1. Hi! Lurker here. I heard your comments about milling your own lumber, and not using it because it wouldn't be graded and stamped. HOWEVER, you need to look into this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWgG5pmhdik titled "Can You LEGALLY Build With SAWMILL Lumber?" posted by another YouTuber, Red Tool House. The important info starts around 7:23.

I completely get your concerns about complying with codes — my husband and I both have been inspectors (code enforcement, building, HUD, etc.) at one time or another – here in Texas, we even went through a time when even code enforcement inspectors had to be trained and certified – and we're not big on bucking the system when it comes to matters of safety. We are hoping to do some milling of our own, so we found the info Red Tool House had pulled together to be REALLY helpful and promising. Hope you find it helpful, too.

  2. If you live in an unrestricted town or community, in some states you don’t have building codes or inspection. The only inspections would be electric from pole to property and septic. I honor your choices to build to code and I’m assuming in your county inspections are required. I pray they aren’t difficult in obtaining or costly for you and the family.

  3. We just did the same with our goats, we put two bucks in with all our does, Ted and Boaz. I am not into ugly breeding, but this year we are actually doing that. We are mainly breeding for our freezer and for goat jerky. We mainly have dairy goats, but we have bred in for meat as well because we enjoy the flavor and taste of goat so ours are bred for a multi purpose here.

  4. I live in a house that had a lot of not code worthy work done on it before we moved in. I really wish some one would have followed the rules! It's been very expensive and downright dangerous for us to discover and fix!
