My guess is someone tried to carve a ball in a stone like someone does out of wood but they never finished it. Cool piece though.

I can't remember what they called it but I think I remember something similar in the Cherokee museum in Talaqua Oklahoma.

It looks like a small, hollowed out rock with pine resin that can be burned like a candle, or to hold pine resin as a fire starter.
A level? Of some type? For building or leveling out something. ..floors, logs etc .

Is it a lamp? It looks like a light is made from stone or a shell and it burns pine sap. ???
Maybe a mortar and pestle for digitalis and other medicines that have to be administered in small doses?
Or, a toy! It's amazing, whatever it is.
