Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Good mothering is genetic, so the kids you get out of Miriam will also not be good mothers.
How are your plastic greenhouses working?
Looking forward to those chats Jess. 🙂
Hey Jess, I've never heard of 'Dirty Rice' . Any chance of a recipe or a link to your fav recipe please?
We run a painting business the shortage and price hikes have been horrible. We warn people who do their own painting all the time preorder or you will not be very happy when you go to the store. Trouble is the bigger builders are hoarding the entire stock even on preorders so be prepared. I love the black.
Wondering why there is what looks like a pink egg carton on your kitchen counter? You have plenty of eggs, I thought.
The greenhouse sound amazing! Heading out this morning to empty mine of brassicas kale and cabbage. Got my work cut out for me here zone 7a N. GA. I have been a fan for 3 years now and have learned so much from you. God bless you and you go girl!!! Keep living the dream and stay well.
When you talk about feeding your plants after planting them Is Miracle-Grow ok?
Curious as to why no primer before the paint? Is it a special paint?
Hey, we've already seen the stained glass window with the black iris. You might also consider planting bat flowers as they are black and dramatic! I buy them as 2 year old rhizomes as they bloom much quicker. They take a minimum of 3 years from seed. You will need shade cloth on one section of the greenhouse. It is going to be a great gardening year for you and myself!
You grew elephant ears next to your window greenhouse in Arkansas so you could grow black elephant ears and black Colocasia as well.
Also I am growing Tiger snake vine- Kennedia nigricans which has a black and yellow flower.
Goth accent color: some red dicentra (bleeding hearts). Also, petunias are in the same family as tomatoes, and there are black varieties of those.
Hello, new here. Saw you all gather over at Jusrins' home a week ago or so. Finally made it here. I Really look forward to a new journey of learning from your videos. Thank you! Have a great Saturday indeed!
Can't wait to see the finished green house, it's going to be striking! Also, how can we send you something through the mail?
Can't wait to see the greenhouse in action
Hi Jess and all. Miss you all but no internet after our big storm and flooding. Town got under water. Please pray for our people. I am in a "hotspot" to letting people know. We are safe but that is all.
I can't wait to see it, it's gonna be so sweet!
Jess/Steph please share the link to the company Jess got her garlic starts. Can’t find the video it was in.
Thanks all!
Have you decided on any farm sales of your milk or future produce since moving to SC?
Jess did you bring Your black hollyhock seeds with you To your new home?
Everything is looking so awesome! Thank you for sharing!
You should go to the stained glass class and make yourself a special piece to add to your greenhouse. Would be cool to say I made that.
Can you post Jeremiah's Dirty Rice recipe?! PUHleeeease. Can't wait to see the Black Green house!
Are you folks okay?
Way back in the day women actually did the kid sharing from time to time believe it or not. Especially during planting & harvest time. Sometimes a woman's milk wouldn't come in, they would ask another woman that already had a baby to wet nurse another child.
Beautiful love the green house I've been dreaming of one so long
