Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

Wondering if you know the answer to how high a raised bed needs to be to stop bandicoots getting in & digging (& eating tubers & bulbs)?
Now off to see last night's damage 🙁
They cause havoc where we live! They keep getting at the chicken food. Any ideas on what to do with them?
Oh no!
Oh you turkey you….
Yeah you guys love animals.
HAA HAA He turns around and the dude is doing it right behind him!
Time for a bush turkey BBQ
Birds love bugs. Bugs love mulch.
LOL … Thank u that was refreshing
Looks like bush turkey dinner is raking your mulch.
He'd make a great broth! Don't forget the horseradish.
Too funny!
The "long version" video link seems wrong
It Might be Christmas dinner early this year
Mark: “so you have chosen death”
Hahahahahahaha!
Those things are destructive but protected. I feel for you
I had no idea they could move that much mulch that far!
Bush Turkeys gave my friends mum hell for years!!! I went to second hand store, got a bundle of stuffed bears/ toys. Hung them from trees, anything, so they hung low……….worked, no more bush turkeys!!!
I had one that ended up as a pet, it'd eat laying mash out of a bowl in my hand and once they are full they don't make as much mess.. they do get protective of their territory though, a few people lost a chunk of flesh from my old bush turkey
Lol, you and that bush turkey. It never gives up
I have been in an ongoing mulch pile war for almost 2 years. I would love to know if the stories of putting out teddy bears and/or mirrors work.
