  1. Love your channel so very much!!! I'm a bit north of you in the Cascade foothills near Mt Rainier. My four kids are all adults now, but I still buy in bulk and share with them all. Your energy is so great and I've learned a lot from you! Funny story…. my daughter had an amazing roommate in college a few years ago who was an international student from China. They are still very very close. She (the friend) is now doing graduate work at USC. She loved my homemade pickles and freezer raspberry jam so much and has REFUSED to buy raspberry jam or pickles anywhere else because they don't taste as good as Sophie's mom's! The amazing power of homemade!

  2. Yes, those are squash bugs. My neighbor taught me to regularly check under the leaves of the plant for squash eggs. I use a pair of garden snips to cit out the piece of leaf that has eggs on it. Then I just put the piece of leaf in a ziplock. If I see any bugs, I throw them in the ziplock too. Then I zip it closed and just leave it in the sun to cook them. Don’t throw the leaf pieces in the garbage or the eggs will hatch and come back to your plant. I check my plants for eggs about every two to three days. I have found that their breeding season is about 6-8 weeks, then they start dying out. But keep checking for eggs through the season.

  3. Gosh what a nice garden harvest!
I was excited about hearing your saving Tabasco chili plants. You should all chili plants next year more harvest and hotter chili. They look dead but they come back spring, I have done it.. I have chilitepin I do nothing during winter to it, it comes back yearly. Looks dead as dead can be lol, but by July August I have flowers and chilies.

  4. Becky you are wise beyond your years. I don’t know about other people but the expression “but that’s ok” floats through my head a number of times a day rather than stressing about things. Thankyou for your wonderful channel.

  5. Another great harvest Becky.A lot of the produce you can turn into baby food once your little one is able to eat. It's going to be a fun adventure once you can make some on your own. Can't wait to see what recipes you plan on using this harvest in.

  6. I have been substituting applesauce for oil for 30 years. More fiber and great nutrients. The only thing I have found is that the end result gets dry or stale a little faster than if I use oil. No problem for us but it could be for others.

  7. Maybe you can prepare a basket with things you need in the garden. Like gloves, scissors, machete, clipper, a knife. You can put it in your car and be prepared any time you decide to go in the garden.

  8. Yes, squash beetles. Yes do something about them now if you plan to use that space next year. I was told they will lay eggs and be there next year. I've learned this the hard way this year. I'm in a community garden and there is a wealth of knowledge from all of my garden neighbors. The squash bugs also transmit Mosaic Virus to the fruit of the plant. Mosaic virus causes your squash to get those bumps all over. Mosaic virus is not harmful to humans, it just gives your squash a spooky "Halloween-ish" look if that makes sense. I use lime on my squash and zucchini all season. Its organic and works well. Sprinkle liberally on leaves and soil. The bugs will make their exit lol. Good luck, and thank you for sharing your gardening experience.
