Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Love your videos!! where can I buy doors for the coops like yours? We put it of bark mulch (made on out property) in the chicken run, they eventually turn this to soil, no smell or slush in the run when rain or dust in summer, they keep turning the bark over, looking for insects, etc & it breaks down nicely
I love your videos man so much
Big cicken = big poops. Stonks!
Love you’re theory of keeping chicken LOL!
Chicken fertilizer is 'the best' period for vegetable gardens.
But what if I can’t keep chickens due to city regulation? (Located in the area of Los Angeles County) Will commercial or organic process chicken poop be ok to use in that case?
At 12:41 what plant with long fruit is growing in the background?okra?if yes,What variety ?
Regards
I just cleaned my coop yesterday. Ohhhh, did you say more chickens…. ok. Lol, I love my girls.
Hi Mark! Do you raise chickens for food or for eggs, or both?
Vomit
I eat vomit

Love your videos ..and always learn something too : }
Curious to know of the slurry is good in the garden. I always though it would burn the plants or be too strong for them….
Birds are naturally inclined to look for worms when it rains. Worms will go up to avoid drowning.
I feel your pain on the rain interrupting your working momentum… but… hailing from California with our MISERABLE drought, what we wouldn’t give for a blessed downpour like that… my chickens would be dancing around in it like yours were! Love your info, thank u!
Great video! I can now justify having 22 chickens because its free fertilizer!! Awesome!
Chicken: “We have the strongest manure of all animals”
Quail: “Hold my poo”
Where are you located?
should it be aged first?
Are you just removing straight from the coop and applying it to the garden or are you setting it to the side for a while?
I'm a bit late to the party but am just watching in 2021! We have 3 chickens & 2 more coming soon. I had no idea you can use thie manure straight on the garden. My chicken waste includes a lot of wood shavings. Can I still use that fresh on the garden? I was told not to – as too much nitrogen!
Plant some marigold flowers near your poultry coop they repel snakes
Does this work for marijuana?
Seaweed
Thank you Sir for the excellent tips!
