  1. LOL!!! That was pretty amusing, Luke (the ending, I mean!) It was like a comedy ending – and I love how Geneva pushed that last large hunk of melon into her mouth! She's quite the little gardener… 😉

  2. Aww you have TWO little cantaloupes. One's wearing a hat! What a cutie pies! I love little ones. And good job with your cantaloupe. I hate the ones from the store; they're ususally too firm and not at all sweet. And we'll be starting our vineyards next year. I'm so excited I can hardly wait.

  3. I've been growing cantaloupe for the last 2 years but none of my cantaloupes have ever been as big as store bought melons, why is that? Am I doing something wrong?

  4. Love this! I'm rewatching everything cantaloupe since I've sprouted some from seed and am so excited! All the seeds sprouted (from a store bought cantaloupe!) what is the best time to transplant some into a different container? Thanks for all you do!!! My seedlings are 6 days old and yesterday I started my first compost bin! You've been a big help!

  5. Im trying cantaloupe this year. So far the vines are about 5 feet long by 2 feet wide, not bad for heavy clay soil. I'll see if any of my 15 plants produce anything

  6. Okay, so I started a few cantaloupe this season, but due to a medical issue a month ago that kept me from working my garden for an entire week, I lost the entire crop to what I think was an infestation of stink bugs and probably not being able to water it consistently during the time frame. I am otherwise fine now and I do plan on buying trellises for next year. However, I wonder that even if I had been perfectly capable in taking care of the cantaloupe, would I still have lost the crop? Because the rest of my garden, with the exception of my last remaining zucchini was perfectly fine and still is today. So, I am thinking stink bugs, I do use Neem oil, but I don't think that stuff works as well as one would hope against those nasty buggers.

  7. I grew vine cantaloupes this year. We live NE of Syracuse, NY. The summer was very wet and hot most days. The vines went nuts and there were a lot of 'lopes growing. Sadly, a lot started getting moldy and weren't good for picking. They rotted on the ground. I built 4'x8'x3' tall planters and filled with logs, branches, et., and then some really good composted soil. This was all on a bed of runner crush gravel so they weren't on any dirt. Also growing sugar baby melons, have a half dozen or so. Your daughter is a cute little bug! Take care.
PS: I planted Paw Paw trees about 9 years ago and they have grown really well. Never had any fruit until this year. Loads of triple and quads on both trees. The Michigan banana here in upstate NY!
