Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Jess you're not old…my growing up years were the 60s and 70s. So, Andy Griffith and the Brady Bunch were the shows I grew up with. I don't know a thing about the Gilmore Girls! In my day it was rotary dial phones vinyl, 8-track and then cassette tapes. I'll be 62 in a little more than a month. In my mind sometimes I'm still 16 and leaving home for BIBLE college. My body on the other hand is in sad shape.
This is exactly why I did a name change on my channel. I feel that we daily are having to be intentional on how we live our lives. Love the slow down and love the Gilmore girls talking points. I was born in 82 and listened to records, 8 tracks, tapes and cds as a kid. We played atari, Nintendo and had to turn our 110 film in to find out we took pictures of our thumbs. What a great childhood.
Jess, I still hear some stress, fatigue and illness coming through the video. It’s obvious you need more rest & rehabilitation. You need more time off than just a couple days here & there you took months ago. Please remember, we only go through life once. It really is OK to put your feet up read a book/nap/movie/knit, delegate tasks to employees & children until your health is back. I’m not saying everyday but more often than now because the amount of selfcare now isn’t enough if you still feel yucky. Not harping, we just care for you❣️I’ve been wondering where Daniel’s been? He is such an old gentle & kind soul. Actually, you both are! Be well and stay safe, Doc❤
So wonderful to see you again Daniel. Blessings!
My grandpa crocheted until the day he died, Daniel should give it a try!
What a wonderful man Daniel seems… a gentle Giant.
This is something I just came a cross. If you don't take time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness. ❤
I wish I was young and cute. I’d help Daniel learn to crochet. He is a special catch for someone.
Always good to see Daniel come back “home” to visit ☺️
My dad started picking up quilting when my mom was learning how to quilt he used to drive her to the quilting class and he would stay and he ended up learning how. And he does amazing job quilting. When I tell people there always surprised because he's a man. But slowing down and learning something that relaxes you is great for a man or woman. In the society that of today that you always have to go go it's nice to just relax and take it easy and shell peas
I’m sorry, but Daniel is just the sweetest soul
Hi Daniel! You are a fav of mine. Hugs
I believe the discussion of this video is the answer to the question posed in the video "The Hardest Part About Right Now | Questioning God" over on Justin Rhodes "Abundance Plus" channel.
I have a very old Jade plant right next to my porch. Now I’m in 9b, so only have to worry about the plant every 3 or 4 years at most… I usually throw a blanket over it, then put a couple jar candles underneath that will keep the ambient air temp above freezing. I make sure the jars are stable and not right under a branch to cause burning above, but have not lost any of the plant to freezing since starting this.
Everything is so lovely. Such a great visit. Thank you for sharing
I used to hate gardening, as a kid. At times I just despised it. However, now when I sit and shell peas…….I would give anything to be back shelling peas with my Mom. I think of her every time I shell my purple hull peas. Love her forever. She was such an amazing hard working woman. I am 53 years old so she literally grew the majority of our food. I look back and am blown away at the amount of food this woman put up. We hardly went to the grocery. Grateful for the seeds she sewn in my life and made me shell those peas.
I remember my 95 year old Grannie looking at me and whispering, “You know inside I still feel 18.”
We're not just all, "Where's Daniel?" We're also all, "It's been a coon's age since you shared you and Daniel singing."
Bitta pea poppin wisdom tar
1) Being excessive is one of your best positive wonderful traits 2) The really long ones would be nice for curved cattle panels from bed to bed across each end so the long bed would start and end with mystery
I hope you'll share recipes when you cook those Cow Peas. I had never heard of them until you started growing them. HUGS!
