Please read: This video shows you two fantastic layering methods of propagation to create new blackberries and other berries (see others below). The two methods are tip layering and simple layering. They are very simple and you will have plenty of new plants in about 3 months. Watch to see the complete process from layering them to digging up some of the successful cuttings and planting them into pots.
The video features loganberries however it is exactly the same with blackberries.
Here are the ‘berries’ which work using these methods:
Blackberry
Loganberry
Sylvanberry
Gooseberry
Strawberry

Great video Huws! Made it look super simple so I guess I'll give it a go!
Very informative, Willits, CA
You can tip layer raspberries
You can use these methods for black raspberries as well – I managed to get good results with a Bristol and a Jewel – enough to the point that I got a bunch of laterals I tried it with, and those have done nicely. Going to be interesting come next year.
Do the exact same thing with strawberry runners
hi, could you sell me some silverberrys or tell me where i can buy some nt too expensive i know they grow well everywhere
my raspberries stand rigid …. i am concerned they might break if i bend them. Your thoughts?
That was awesome Huw really enjoy your videos
i bleave best time to applay this method in sumer and keep joint to mother plant untill next spring
Theyre so easy to grow w no maintenance at all. Love em
i do it with strawberries….use as ground covers plants around all my berry plants
How to do it in strawberry plant ??
Beautiful and great video freind.
Can I do this for boysenberries? Thx
This is brilliant – I had no luck with simple layering on my loganberries last year and wanted to try tip layering, but instructions in books etc. never make it clear whether you have to strip the tip back first or not – now I know to bury the entire tip – I'm going out to do a few now – many thanks for a clear and concise video.
This works for raspberries as well, you are wrong about that, bro.
The simple method seems to produce more roots, but you suggest at the end of the video, to try tip layering first.
Which way is the faster option?
very clear and simple to do… thank you!
So with the tip method, isn't the plant growing backwards?
Thanks for the great video, I'm going to use your method today.
Actually, layering (simple or tip) DOES work with raspberries that have trailing canes, not such self-supporting upright canes as Heritage Raspberries, on which air layering works a treat.
As usual, GREAT JOB. I always like your No-nonsense videos. I never saw the "TIP" method before. I may try it this year. Thanks buddy…..
Obviously U get summer rain. I live in Ca. and some tips root and others dont … watering tips is a pain
Can I prune them in summer???
Great tip on the angle of cut so the water drains away from the first leaf node and doesn't rot it.
Thank you!
Does this work on blackberry tree with thorns? I'm not sure what variety of blackberry I have.
Very useful, thank you
What about boysenberry???
