In this video I’ll show you how I prune my fruit trees during the first summer after planting. These are all two year old trees and this first summer pruning is necessary for size control and structure creation specific to backyard orchards with a wide variety of trees in a small space. Ideally I would have pruned these trees in July, but due to a busy fire season in my job as a California firefighter, August was the earliest opportunity I had to summer prune these trees. Do you think its ok to prune right now. The leaves are starting to turn colors.
Hi, I did your steps from bare root planting to summer pruning, but now my dwarf trees are flowering (cherry, apple & plum) I live in the Central Coast zone 9b. Not sure if that is normal?
Also, are you going to winter prune or is that all the pruning until next summer pruning?

Thanks for the video! What are advantages/disadvantages to doing this pruning in late summer as supposed to when the trees are dormant in winter?
The Jujube will have plenty of sucker roots popping up once it gets established. It is pretty vigorous.

So I have 2 questions. One is how much water do you give with your irrigation system? The mulch holds moisture in so how often do you water and how much and how would you know the adjustment to make? The second is how to keep your trees from disease if possible and how would you treat it? Do you know anything about that or if they die you just replant a new tree? Your peach one seemed like you chose new tree but then again they are still young and it won't ultimately be that far behind if you choose to go new. Thanks for any info, trying to learn

What about an avocado tree? I planted it in a planter for now because I will be moving it to it's final destination early next year. My main question is how do I trim it? Do you have an avocado tree? It is almost a year old and it stretched out a lot.

I enjoy your videos very much since they are informative. Would you happen to know if a jujube tree is grown from a sucker would produce fruits as large as the mother tree? I have one currently is growing on its fourth year, but the fruits are tiny.
