The huge watermelon that we have been watching for a while is finally ripe!
Some people have commented on how relatively weed free our garden is. We go into a brief description of how we keep the weeds down in the garden in this video.
We had a really nice harvest of peppers, okra, butter beans, and green beans today!
Garden Harvest! Our green beans and okra are making like crazy!
Today we harvested okra, butter beans, green beans, and peppers. We have a lot of new items planted in the garden we wanted to share as well.
We harvest our second planting of sweet corn this summer. We grew Stowell’s Evergreen for our first planting and then planted some Silver Queen. We just harvested our Silver Queen in this video. We also harvested some peppers and butter beans.
It is time to harvest and replant several of our crops. We harvested and pulled the Brussels Sprouts one of the rows of roma tomatoes. We harvested several other items in the garden.
We harvested our Red LaSoda potatoes. Our potato bed was 4′ wide and 30’long, so a total of 120 sq. ft. We harvested a total of 64.26 pounds of potatoes from this potato bed. I also included footage at the end of the video of a disappointing Kennebec potato harvest.
We picked tomatoes, Purple Hull Peas, Butter Beans, okra, eggplant, cucumbers, and peppers. Pretty nice harvest day for us!
An update about our garden for July. We have Purple Hull Peas about ready to pick. Our butterbeans are about ready too.
Our onions are dry and we are cutting off the roots and dead foliage for a final weigh in.
Garden harvest time! We picked Brandywine, Black Vernissage, Better Boy, and Roma tomatoes.
We harvested our Stowell’s Evergreen corn today! We started some Silver Queen sweet corn in flats about three weeks ago. Immediately after harvesting the Stowell’s Evergreen corn today we cut down the stalks and transplanted our Silver Queen where the Stowell’s had been.
Just a description of what we picked in our garden the other day!
One of the first harvests of our squash! We planted groups of squash in several different areas of the garden.
It’s time to harvest garlic! I think this is the best garlic harvest we have ever had. Most of the heads were big and pretty. Last year we waited a little too long and a lot of the cloves had sprouted. I think we caught it at about the right time this year.
In this video we show several strawberry harvests. Sorry about my voice in one of the clips. The kids have been wild at school and I have been having to talk over them, lol!
In this video we harvest carrots, harvest our spring onions, and replant them into the bed where the carrots were. We also transplant our peppers we started from seed into larger containers. Our strawberries are making like crazy!!
This is an update about what we have growing in our garden in mid-April. We are working to transition our garden from spring veggies to summer crops. We have limited space so it is a juggling act when shifting from one season’s crops to another. I said “Hitton Chinese Cabbage” several times. I should have…
This is our first real strawberry harvest of the year (other than just occasional grazing while out in the yard, lol). They are big and pretty and so sweet!!
We set poles and build a fence for our thornless blackberries to climb on.
We harvested some of our catfish and used the remains as fertilizer in our garden.
We are transplanting our tomato seedlings from the flats we started them in into our Solo cups. We are planting Roma, Better Boy, Black Vernissage, and Brandywine tomatoes this year.
We have a tiny 8′ by 8′ pond in our backyard that we have stocked with Channel Catfish. We recently cleaned the pond for spring and harvested some of the fish. We were curious about how many fish were left in the pond, so we decided to take the underwater GoPro down to investigate!
We don’t thin or separate our strawberry plants.Every other year we deep mulch our strawberry plants. We cover the entire bed with a very thick layer of leaves. We cover them so completely the plants aren’t even visible. The strong hardy plants push through the mulch layer in the spring for our new crop. We…
Our asparagus bed has finally decided to kick in and make asparagus for us!
Garden update from back in mid-March. We are fertilizing our greens with Black Kow and Blood Meal and then mulching with hay.
We are planting some White Kennebec Potatoes. We have one area in our garden that is dry enough to plant. We will plant more as the garden dries out.
Just a quick update about what we have growing in our garden in late February!
