VIDEO: Success with my okra, finally
Finally success with okra.
The best gardening & homesteading channels on Youtube
Part 2 Just showing what I have going. Recovering from health problems, catching up on projects as well as job search forced me to hold back on my garden this year. In spite of that it appears I have more than I thought or even intended.
Back on our other property. Looking at three volunteers. A Schwetzgen purple plum, a Mirabella plum and the wild roses wanted for the rose hips. Trying to get things cleaned up and reorganized after my long illness prevented work.
A little on the progress this year. A bad potting mix has set me back. Will be re-potting some things with my original mixture of compost and manure. Also a bit on a cherry harvest and tree pruning.
Walk through of half of the Garden beginnings and it’s progression.
Just about ready to get more set out. I have a pepper problem I hope someone can help with.
I’ve been trying to grow okra for the past 2 years in a northern climate. The first year was a disaster. Last year I got healthy plants but not much produce. This year looks like I may have better success. For the most part I do not try to grow plants that are not native…
Had not planned on making a third video for this subject of beginning gardening but a few comments on the other two and prepping for this years garden brought to mind a couple more
These tips are given with the understanding that one knows they must think for themselves. No one is going to find the Holy Grail in one video. If you have a question then ask in the comments. If I do not know the answer I bet I know someone who does.
I had many appointments last week and did not get much accomplished. Hopefully more to come.
First cold frame build. Next one should be a bit easier now that I know how I want them. The video starts out a bit slow.
Old beds re-made and garden terraced. Realized I had re-learned an old lesson.
Made some modifications to my greenhouse to stop it collapsing under rain. Have harvested the last of our apples and preparing to make apple sauce, apple butter, jelly and dehydrating.
Work has prevented me from getting very far along this year. Gotta get that corrected.
Yeah, loss for words. Don’t know what else to say about this.
A few things from the home garden.
Making elderberry syrup for use in mixing as a drink. We mix in primarily in water. Purported to have medicinal uses. I use metric measurements as that is what is available to me. Not sure how to transfer them but there are many, and varied, recipes. Look around. You may find one that suits you…
Finally getting work done on the property. Trellises built seedlings out. Little on the soil, wood chip mulch. fertilizer and slug control.
Short addendum to my earlier video on seed saving. This time reasons for saving seed. I did not address political and corporate reasons but I have addressed those many times in the past and probably will again in the future.
Progress is slow due to certain “challenges”. Showing a little progress and some things I am trying this year.
Why I feel we do not have a water shortage. Why I believe hydroponics is not sustainable. Sustainability starts with you (me). Sustainability will require courage.
Way behind this year. Showing a little of what I’ve got and a few space saving methods I am trying. Also need help identifying a problem with my Yacon.
Taking a chance on the weather and setting out seedlings. Speaking about Return on Investment of purchases.
The Yacon is beginning to show itself. Trying to root some wild rose cuttings for rose hips and discussing my view of contentment as part of the self sufficient mentality.
