We are excited to have put in an offer on the old farmhouse, but are nervous because we aren’t the only person currently submitting an offer. Are we going to get the place? We don’t know, but we hope we do, because it could be our dream home and new farm. __________ Subscribe and JOIN…
Ian and Serina went looking at 4 homes, all of which they were excited about, but they can only pick one. Each home has lots of potential to be a different type of farm, but only one can be our home. Join us in our excitement to pick the perfect house as we describe the…

One of the first harvests of our squash! We planted groups of squash in several different areas of the garden.
It’s time to harvest garlic! I think this is the best garlic harvest we have ever had. Most of the heads were big and pretty. Last year we waited a little too long and a lot of the cloves had sprouted. I think we caught it at about the right time this year.
The greenhouse is filled with the seedlings that are ready to get planted out, and the spring crops are ready to be picked. And that means a lot of radishes! Luckily we love radish around here. __________ Subscribe and JOIN OUR JOURNEY! https://www.youtube.com/c/YouCantEatTheGrass?sub_confirmation=1. __________ SOCIAL MEDIA Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/you.cant.eat.the.grass/ Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/you.cant.eat.the.grass/ Google+ | https://plus.google.com/u/0/+YouCantEatTheGrass…
In this video we show several strawberry harvests. Sorry about my voice in one of the clips. The kids have been wild at school and I have been having to talk over them, lol!
Half the rhubarb harvested, and 17lbs in the kitchen. We love this rhubarb plant! The kale wants to go to seed, but I want to eat it. So I compromise and eat the kale flower buds, which are actually really delicious. I am cooking them with a really simple recipe, that even horrible chefs like me can pull off, by drowning them in oil, salt and pepper, and baking…
In this video we harvest carrots, harvest our spring onions, and replant them into the bed where the carrots were. We also transplant our peppers we started from seed into larger containers. Our strawberries are making like crazy!!
The radishes and mustard greens that I planted in the greenhouse are starting to really grow, and that means that it is time to do some thinning so I can have the best harvest possible. Come along with me as I explain how to thin direct seeded crops and the reasons that you want to…
The vegetables are really starting to grow in the greenhouse. The seedling that I started in the soil blocks less than a month ago are ready to be planted out. The tomatoes and peppers need to be potted up. And the radishes and other short spring crops planted in the ground are desperately needing to…
This is an update about what we have growing in our garden in mid-April. We are working to transition our garden from spring veggies to summer crops. We have limited space so it is a juggling act when shifting from one season’s crops to another. I said “Hitton Chinese Cabbage” several times. I should have…
This is our first real strawberry harvest of the year (other than just occasional grazing while out in the yard, lol). They are big and pretty and so sweet!!
Ian gets to work, and builds 20 wooden seedling trays, out of some scrap wood we had around the house. They are fairly simple to build, and a great plastic free way to use soil blocks for starting your seeds for your vegetable garden. You need: 1 – 9 1/2 x 20 1/4 inch thin…
We set poles and build a fence for our thornless blackberries to climb on.
We harvested some of our catfish and used the remains as fertilizer in our garden.
I’m direct seeding most of the greenhouse with spring crops. Things have warmed up enough overnight, that the soil has started to heat up in the greenhouse, and it is time to test if we can get an entire spring crop out before we plant our tomatoes and eggplants. So come along and laugh at…
I love Justin Rhodes permaculture chickens gardening technique, but I don’t have any chickens. So instead, I’m talking about stacking function and using your resources to the best of your abilities, and highlighting the differences and similarities between our vegetable gardens. I’m excited for the summer garden, and for checking out The Great American Farm…
Now that the greenhouse is all cleaned up, it is time to start putting it to good use. I am experimenting with the soil blocker and doing my first planting of 2018. The cold hardy brassicas need a bit of a head start before getting planted into the ground, so I am hoping that the…
We are transplanting our tomato seedlings from the flats we started them in into our Solo cups. We are planting Roma, Better Boy, Black Vernissage, and Brandywine tomatoes this year.
There is nothing else to harvest at the house yet, so I am making an infused oil with one of the few things that I have – violet leaves. They are supposed to have anti inflammatory properties that will make a perfect “hard work” salve down the line. So I am picking them and packing…
We don’t thin or separate our strawberry plants.Every other year we deep mulch our strawberry plants. We cover the entire bed with a very thick layer of leaves. We cover them so completely the plants aren’t even visible. The strong hardy plants push through the mulch layer in the spring for our new crop. We…
Our asparagus bed has finally decided to kick in and make asparagus for us!
