VIDEO: Growing 100% Organically Indoors on 16 Square Feet

We will begin the indoor gardening season just a bit later than normal this year. The garden will be a challange to grow as many things as possible in as small of space as possible. In this year’s garden we will be growing carrots, beets, radishes, greens, beans, and basil! All in 16 square feet.

  1. hi,Luke. thank you for sharing your knowledge and time. If you want a great waterer for your indoor bed, use a push pin to make six or seven holes in the cap of a two liter soda bottle, fill the bottle with water, turn upside down and gently squeeze. This produces a spray gentle enough even for seedlings. Looking forward to purchasing seeds from you later this month.

  2. Love the videos on indoor organic gardening! I've been watching for roughly 9 months! I live in Alaska and don't get much of an outdoor season so I'm stoked to get to see what you do in regards to situations I'm in!

  3. OMG, if you get a bug infestation it is because you created the conditions for the bugs to thrive. I did not see any kind of drainage in your grow bed and an over-moist grow bed is just inviting trouble.

  4. Luke, would it be good to plant the spinach on the end after the beans since they put nitrogen in the soil? That way the spinach would not be near other plants to steal their nitrogen

  5. Luke can you recommend a lighting system for this type of gardening? I have a little lock up shed I'm thinking of turning into a grow room, with 105F days in summer and corrugated iron, I'll need to think of that, but to begin with, I would like to set something up on a budget (pensioner in Australia, living on around $100 US Fortnight after bills paid)-winter to begin with, but still would need to think of insulating from cold (I think?), but we don't very often get frosts here-maybe just to start seeds off for myself and community garden, then maybe turn into a fully fledged grow area like what you have done, when I can sort out the issue I would have with a tin shed and 105F days in summer! I'm having a huge issue with light being in apartment style living, I'm hoping if I turn my shed into a grow area, I might just jet some more productivity! Any help with lighting and insulating would be brilliant, or if you can direct me to some good info-it's just so much out there go beginners! Trying to work it out is crazy! Space is about 42" wide by 69" long. It's just a "lawn locker"

  6. what do you mean hydroponics isnt organic? it can be, you dont have to use chemical fertilizers. A better option is you can do it well, is aquaponics, which fertilizes as you grow fish.

  7. Mb my question is dumb because I'm totally new in this topic, that looks amazing but anyone can explain how the water suppose to drain? I mean I thought it should be the holes in a bottom for drainage like in the pots for the flowers, otherwise the roots might get rotten? Or it's ok for the water just to stay there in a soil?

  8. Gary Pilarcik shows using boiling water to sterilize soil used for indoor use. Have you ever tried that? I am using it for my seed starting indoors. So far, so good.
