  1. Curtis I have been a daily viewer for a year now. I have your book and a few of your online classes. I am starting a suburban 1/4a farm on your model this year. I would like your opinion about approaching a non existing or virgin market you might say. I would like to compensate you for this advice. Do you have the time and if so how should I contact you via your email? I certainly appreciate the knowledge I have gained so far.

  2. What you say is always useful ! Your happy and supportive attitude helps – it educates, it validates things I am doing already – and that is always useful because its easy to loose direction and confidence. thankyou

  3. A few companion planting sources I've seen suggest interplanting basil with tomatoes for increasing the latter's yield (~10"). I've planted them together before but never run a control group beside them to verify this claim. Do you have any thoughts or experience on this relationship?

Another thing to try with the aphids (to add to the list) is a sacrificial plant. There are aphids on my seedling shelf but they're ignoring everything except my moroccan and chocolate mint (mature plants brought in when it got cold). The mints are getting chewed on hard but are as stubborn as mint is while the aphids don't seem to be interested in anything else.

  4. As a thank you for you inspiration and quality videos, I'd like to share what I've learned about aphids on my low desert homestead. #1 aphids means ant problem too. Ants kill ladybugs to protect ants. #2 green lace wings have been more useful here in outdoor garden because ants didn't get them. 2 releases will establish them better. #3 Lady bugs are native on my property here. They seem to lay eggs on a fine native short seedy clump grass and possibly mallow. So, a few weeds would house them better This time of year I see them as I pull weeds. By the time it warms more, and transplants start taking off, the ants move in and ladybugs fly off. At this time, I trim up plants about 6 inches and paint a paste of Surround onto base stem of tomatoes and beans. By keeping leaves off ground, I can control ant access to plants and greatly reduce ant problem. I'm much less educated than yourself, but this is my experience. So, take it with a grain of salt…. but. again, thank you for your videos.

  5. hey curtis… so im taking the leap… After watching this video i have worked on lining up my current work as a carpenter to transition to farming. i asked my current employer to pay me more per hour and i would work mon through wed managing the construction site and the rest of the week on the farm. at this point i have a 2000 sq ft plot to prep….

  6. Mr. Curtis! Finally I have something worthwhile to tell you!!! I had an aphid problem and ordered ladybugs. Nothing. The second fellow I bought from told me to open the package but confine them for the first day to a box with water and raisins (to eat). That worked! They attacked the aphids but would also eat on the raisins. My aphids were horrible and the ladybugs made them history.

  7. Curtis. Several people have suggested using a garlic solution to get rid of your aphid situation. All of the articles that I have read say that it is a repellant not an insect killer. So all it would do is chase them to another location.  A soap solution might be your best solution. It actually kills the critters.  Don't use too much soap since it could dry out the leaves.

  8. Thanks for the discount, Curtis! I'll be purchasing a Coolbot from them, I guess….unless someone else sells them in Canada, (I know, dream on….).

Nice to have you back in BC. Sleep off that jet lag…. 😉

  9. Curtis, I have watched hundreds of your videos but don't recall seeing anything on garlic. Is it too long of a crop? What about selling the scapes to make it more profitable?
I make awesome garlic scape pesto. Another idea, have you tried selling some of your produce preserved like pickled beets, kale chips, zucchini relish etc?

    love the videos!

    keep em coming

  10. Hey Curtis, this may be a ridiculous rookie suggestion, but could you borrow 2-4 chickens and let them loose in the nursery for a minute? I know they'd probably snack on your product too, but I'm wondering if they would preferentially feast on the aphids Perhaps you could supervise them at first and limit their time in nursery? Might be worth a shot to see how they do

  11. I am very interested in how your Sweet Million are coming. I have grown a few plants in the past for personal consumption for my family and really liked them. Last year they did not do well but it was a watering problem I left for two weeks right as they were putting on fruit and they did not get water here in South Texas that = death. lol
