  1. If I could master one skill, it would be construction so I can fix things up. But there are so many homestead tasks and hats to wear. Still learning the very basics…food, water, shelter.

  2. We want land with a small home. I am working very hard towards that means.I am learning and doing all I can to make this happen before it is to late for us. We are older and we promised God we would never go into debt ever again. Everyone tells us we are to old and there is no way we can get land without going into debt. Please keep us in your prayers and if there is anyone else out there that wants to pray for my family I would be grateful. Health is one we need and to be able to get out of the city. Thank you and God bless

  3. Patara, when I was watching this, my whole grain bread was on its first rise, I had some frozen fish thawing to make some chowder, and while many folks around me are in near-panic about the incoming snow (oh, dear Heaven, it's only 2-4"! get over it!) and I have to tell you, living alone on my acreage and building my Back-to-Eden food forest floor makes me very, VERY happy.

  4. Im not happy being on the road but i have a reason for it i wold rather get dirty and stinky but im out here. To get money to have a place to raise chickens and a bigger garden and we are growing mainly green beans this yr probly only a few tomatoes because we have enough tomatoes for a few yrs

  5. So much truth dear Patara! No two homesteads are alike, nor should they be alike. Each homestead should be one that fits your needs, and limitations. And if you cannot or will not homestead for whatever reasons, supporting your local farmers is always a great thing! Speaking of learning about our ancestors, I agree! We need to know who our people are! I learned not long ago about my great-great grandmother and what a fascinating person she was! Our family comes from Ireland, but not sure exactly where. I would love to find out where we originated from in Ireland. Learning about our ancestors is wonderful! Even if there are some unsavory characters in our lineage lol! The thing I love most about you is you are REAL! Thank you for not putting on the typical "social media" facade! Blessings to you beautiful lady!

  6. Well said Patera. We have a small homestea in Fl with the chickens and ducks, sheep and we also breed Great Pyrenees. I turned 70 this year and my husband is younger than me so still works full time. I am enjoying this as long as possible. So far, it's not a problem and I just love my sheep and dogs. I was 65 years old before I realized sheep and dogs were what I never knew I always wanted to do. lol. By the way I too come from scots/irish people. West Va on daddy's side and Georgia on my moms.

  7. Awesome video. Thankyou, I needed this talk as I have been debating if I want to add more to our garden (fruit trees, etc) I am going to say No. We have alot of orchards and farmers markets around here. I think this is the way to go for us. 🙂

  8. I studied my ancestors censuses so hard. I loved to see that they had land and livestock. My family was all about the farming until the last 2 generations. It's in my blood. This past year my tomatoes failed miserably with blight. No shame in buying bulk tomatoes from the farmers market to make my sauce. Making sauce makes me happy. Great advice, Patara!

  9. Scot-Irish here; I love tracing and tracking my long ago ancestors . To look at a picture I had never seen of gt gt gt gt Papaw or Mamaw and look them in the eye, their sun kissed face, hands that look like they’ve done it all and clothes of the simplest kind but with purpose. I’m proud to know my people made Virginia,Tennessee, Kentucky and even Texas what they are today.
Great video, great advice and real honest!!!❤️

  10. Patera, you're right. We need to know our roots and where we came from. There is value and wisdom from those who have passed their knowledge, lessons and hardships to us.

  11. I absolutely love your channel, this video was absolutely wonderful… And also on point life isn't easy, but a person doesn't have to make it harder than it has to be… Keep on doing what you're doing you're an awesome person..
