Here on the farm, having the right tool for the job is super important. And as we head into our 4th year farming veggies and flowers, we have made enough mistakes, that we are starting to know what is the best tool for each individual job. This week, we are busting through the list of spring clean up and farm prep with a big variety of important new tools – a trencher machine to dig for us, a skid steer to haul and scoop for us, and a pole pruner to save our backs while trimming perennials. We are also potting up tomatoes, and setting up low tunnels to protect against some unseasonable weather.

  1. Tools, shmools, that's why you're supposed to have 8 children, like meercats…. If they can walk, they can dig…. 🙂 That transplant thingy looks fun, though.

  2. I'm pretty sure with our single digit Temps thus spring my tulips won't have blooms and if by chance they do bloom they will be very small flowers. Im anxious to see if yours bloom with uour cold Temps.

  3. HA !!! WELCOME TO THE REST OF CANADA !! Just kidding , but really every year i see you guys , for last few years anyway starting so much earlier than us ( cough , in Northern Ontario ) LOL , We are still under several feet of snow ugh but still wishing you all the best . xo

  4. Love my transplanter and couldn’t go back to planting on my hands and knees. Can plant 5000 statice plants in 2 hours. Just water the plants really well before planting so that they slide down the tube.

  5. Loved this video!!!!! Love where you live. What is the town behind Ian in the valley? You are now speaking my language. Some of us no longer have youth /time on our side. Using all the tools you can now will save your body from the work you love. I always thought the hard work would keep me going/strong. But; it's the passion and love of the work that keeps me going , cause the body is wearing out after 33 yrs of gardening/farming. I never heard of the transplanter tool. OMG that is great! Farm looks wonderful!

  6. How do you make room for new seedlings coming up if you are just hedging the tops? Don't they need to be pulled up from the roots?

  7. K I love seeing about tools! I need this standing planting tool. I'm doing above-ground irrigation but darn, I almost want to try that weird chainsaw digging tool haha.

  8. We learn best from making mistakes, the tool ideas good for our local Allotment site.
When we're younger we think our bodies will always be the same, agile, boy does that change and sometimes over night. Thank you for your ideas and experiences. Jan
