Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Do all eggs from all birds taste the same? Like if someone scrambled a goose egg and gave it to you, would you know it was a goose egg and not a chicken or a duck? Or would you have to ask?
Our 3 year plan is to get a milking Devon ❤
Thank you for allowing us to be with you on your beautiful journey. <3
When I was young I made the mistake of going into the pasture with a horse that had just foaled. I tripped over a grass mound while running away, and she tarred up and came down. Praise God she got my skin on the calf and not my whole leg. It was really bad and I had a big dip in my leg for years.
Farmers are more dangerous. No?
I remember when you planted that willow tree. Nice to see that it's happy and healthy.
Thank you for showing us the weeping willow tree. I have often wondered how it was growing. I, like you, think those trees are wonderful. It was also sweet to see how your little boys have grown in these last 2 years. Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary. You have made such amazing strides in 2 short years and I am certainly looking forward to see what you will accomplish in the coming years. Your farm is truly lovely.
Happy Easter, Happy Anniversary, and God Bless You and your Family! It is an honor to watch your journey.
Happy Farmiversay! Lovely cows and horses. You are so blessed. You inspire me to keep going and following my dream
I always used my goose eggs for making noodles. best noodles ever!!
I agree on that cow that you like, she’s a beautiful cow. Nice long, flat topline, good udder. Good hindquarters.
The elusive egg
Are the pitchure plants going to survive our winters? Pots might be a good idea so you can bring them in.
Those boys have grown a LOT in two years!!
We have had to use a drone to find a calf in tall grass before! They sure can hide really well!!!
You can go see the pitcher plants growing near Redbank not far from Lexington, SC! By Shealy’s Pond Clemson owns the land and you can hike the trail and find them!!!
Hi Darling Jess..Do you Guys get to Ride your Horses x Seems so long ago that you sat on your Stall and Milked your First Cow x
Beautiful farm❤
I'm glad you are showing that little willow tree Jess !
FYI Polled cows mean cows without horns.
Makes me so happy to see how the farm is developing. Your knowledge of the farming life is very impressive. Every time I check in to see what's going on, it's so fun and hopeful! But most importantly, your faith in the Lord Jesus ( I call Yeshua bc I am connected to a Messianic congregation in Norfolk, VA). You inspired me years ago to seek a more active relationship with Yeshua. Thank you for being your authentic self in Christ. He is using you in a really great way to reach people with the Good News! I now live in Guanajuato City, Mexico, hoping to start an urban garden on my rooftop. <3
Always a pleasure
Two years, wow. I've been following you for several years and my heart is full of joy for you and your entire family. Blessing from San Diego.
In just such a short time, y'all are amazing.
