But… GMOs arent bad for you. And this latest kick in everyone wanting non-GMO everything does way more harm than whatever good you think it does.
Great DIY.
I did this a few months ago and it was a little gritty. Maybe I didn’t whizz it long enough. It was still cool that I could do it, though. I was visiting my Dad in another state for Christmas and there was no powdered sugar to be found in any store!
Such a great idea!!! Added to my list and I’ll have to do a video for my followers! Such a great idea!!
Thanks so much for sharing! I would've never thought it was this easy!
I tried a few times and it was still more granular then store bought. I did make it without corn starch and mine did clump. I have been more successful with cinnamon powdered sugar because we use them on homemade doughnuts. Going to try again but so much more successful with brown sugar.
Becky, thank you so much! I never even thought about making it! How awesome!
Thanks to you, I can now make my own brown sugar AND powdered sugar ! Thanks Becky
I’m discovering that I’m allergic to corn so this was a helpful reminder…have known about this trick but haven’t tried it yet…
I bought some powdered Monk Fruit sugar that was very expensive. With these instructions I can make my own which will save beaucoup bucks.
You make me feel like anything is possible Becky! Thank you for being an inspiration!
I’ve noticed when you’re restocking your buckets, like flour buckets the big sugar ones etc the big ones and some of the small ones that you add the new on top of the old instead of taking the old out and putting the new fresh bag in on the bottom and then placing the old on top. Does it not matter to make sure to rotate these things since they are in the buckets they are in?
Becky, this will wear oute youre blender fast. The knives in it will become dull and The machine have to work much harder, that can lead to overheating and deth of the blender. sadly this hapend to me this valentinesday, i am a cock and tryd to make 800 cupcakes fore ouer gest. I hade no powderd sugar, made my own and after destroyng 2 blades The 6000 dollar machin gave in. my boss was mot happy.
My husband's favorite salad dressing was discontinued, Raspberry poppy seed, so I learned to make it from scratch…..he says it's better than the store bought.
I do want to clarify that Sugar Beets can be a GMO crop but unlike corn which almost always is beets aren't necessarily (though it is very common).
Why is this important? Sugar Beets can be grown pretty much anywhere, unlike Sugar Cane which has to be imported from the tropics (leading to both environmental costs, and human rights issues). So for those of us who are trying to buy local/regional Beet Sugar can be a good choice. It really comes down to personal values.
I love this because I can reduce my plastic waste
Awesome! I wonder if you can do the same thing with Stevia?
I just looked at the icing sugar ingredients we get and it says “icing sugar, tricalcium phosphate”. The price difference is big too, for 1kg of icing sugar it’s £1.70, for 1kg of granulated sugar it’s £0.65! Or if you buy a 2kg of granulated sugar it’s £0.62 per kg and 5kg of granulated sugar is £0.65 per kg. If you want caster sugar which is what I use for baking that’s a finer granule it’s £1.60 per kg! So you can save so much money just by blitzing up your own! There’s no option of organic sugar in the store I’m looking at either x
Hey Becky … Think you may have been hacked/copied. Suspect reply to my previous comment. ❤️
Sorry ,why add cornstarch ??
Thank you!!! I never thought this deeply into what’s in powdered sugar. Definitely not wasting time and money on that any more, especially with how easy this is to make.
This was perfect timing. My daughter was making frosting the evening this was posted and we didn't have enough powdered sugar, but having seen this earlier in the day, we were fine. Thanks for the useful information.
Thank you!
