  1. So Curtis, if we use your overwintered carrots approach/model with the climate extension, is there any reason this would work better than just leaving the carrots in the ground and let them seed the following year assuming the winter gets cold enough to preserve the carrot?

  2. Thank you, that's helpful! I'm growing Kyoto Reds right now in California, from Baker Creek. It's a fall-sown variety (bolts if it's planted in the spring). I'm going to try getting seeds in the spring first, and then doing a dormancy period, but not sure how that's going to work!

  3. I didn't know the word steckling is also used in english, it translates as cutting in german.
another way to reduce spoilage is to store the roots over winter, cut and taste in spring before planting.

  4. Sorry if this is a stupid question but can someone knowledgeable explain to me the difference between "sprouting" seeds and regular? For example will I have sprouting seeds if I just let my broccoli bolt? Thank you. I want to create a closed loop and generate my own sprouting seeds.

  5. Curtis, you hit it out of the park again. What a wonderful man to introduce us to. It's obvious to me that I could study the rest of my life…and perhaps touch on just what he's forgotten. I love my FromTheField.farm subscription. Heading there now to check out the whole video!

  6. what if you dont have refrigeration @0-7C, is there a way to preserve in saw dust or chopped hay or newspaper, Our grandparents didn't have those types of cool conditions in refrigerators. Will a root cellar with another storage technique work? Grand Solar Minimum is upon us, we need solutions quick

  7. I have been saving seeds for 15 year. Every year the crops are better then the year before.
I have inoculated my Heirloom tomatoes to some Blites. Last summer in the most Cold Wet season ever, not any blite.
Love this Info on Carrot seed saving.
    Honestly Curis, best video Ever!
